Sands of Time...

Trying my hardest to grab onto this thing called time. I try to hold it between my hands, to make it stand and stop and be still. Wishing it wasn't ruthless and would just wait for me. Time, continues to betray me. The other night at the very last minute I remembered I had scheduled a conceptual shoot for the following day. The music festival left me flying so high it slipped my mind and with no location or wardrobe planned... I decided to go ahead and do the shoot. The images reflect that I,  in fact, am struggling with time but not with ideas. As props we used things I found in the trunk of my car.  As a backdrop we used the skies and the sand. So here it goes...

Atlas...

I've had some trying times as of lately but I continue crashing the walls of these cages.  Riding this constant ebb and flow provides me with an innate balance. I hang ten and surf these waves. Inspired by the weight we carry in our shoulders as well as the ideas of my subject and breaking out of my comfort zone we created Atlas.

Brought to you by the letter A...

Savannah has been bathed in sunlight for the past few days.. Don't hate us but we've  had three days of temperatures in the low 80's with a yummy breeze and pink sunsets. Open windows at night feels like a premature summer and I really dig...This morning it finally rained because in reality that is too much and completely unfair to my northern friends.

Wednesday, I set off to create Africa in Savannah. Inspired and trying to subside this wanderlust feeling within I did a session with Shaunii R. I try really hard to create worlds and spaces within a frame. I work hard to not repeat myself with concepts and ideas.  I work hard so each shoot is different and unique. In the end not only I am happy for the challenge but the subject feels proud and happy to have been a part in the creation of it.

I must tell you after my shoot my car battery died...
I must tell you two Southern (one can be seen in one of the images) gentlemen helped me get back on the road...
I must tell you that the one driving the pick up truck  (no picture of him available) was so dreamy...
I really must tell you that Shaunii and I felt as if we were a part of an 80's John Hughes movie montage.

Wonderland...

Many friends and loved ones are going through shifts and changes and I am as well. The beginning of any given year presents us with the opportunity of growth and rebirth and most of us embrace it. Questioning my own existence and future is as normal as brushing my teeth these days.

Like the frog footman shows up with an invite to the croquet game... the return of old lovers via Facebook friend request is one I always question. Puzzled, I accept. Something happens when we reach a certain age and with fondness we navigate the roads and rivers of the past as if we've dropped something along the way...

What I remember from those days is a plethora of boys I've kissed. Beautiful boys that provided me with even more beautiful adventures, music, art and laughter. They never meant any harm and I would always leave them before they had a chance to leave me. Then, all I needed was someone warm to hold onto and read poetry with. Drink wine and kiss me until the sun would come up or until my lips were burning... chapped... from all the kissing. These boys all tasted like mangoes and papayas who was I to deny myself of such sweetness. They would lay on my lap and fall asleep.

Dreaming of who knows what...

Alice could possibly be one of my favorite characters and as an homage of me going down the rabbit hole and with the help of Krista that wanted so badly to be Alice...
I present to you...

Red...

Red is strong, fierce and passionate.
Red is determination and at times surreal.
Red is the color of love and hungry lips.

Red is also the color of shame...

“Your red dress,’ she said, and laughed.
But I looked at the dress on the floor and it was as if the fire had spread across the room. It was beautiful and it reminded me of something I must do. I will remember I thought. I will remember quite soon now.”
Wide Sargasso Sea

We tried to go for a second concept. We tried because we had beautiful dresses that needed to be worn. We tried but the skies told me it would only be about Red...

Jon and Blake you guys are amazing and I am lucky to be surrounded by so many creative artists. Laura thank you for an amazing session.

Painting By Numbers...

My favorite day of the week will always be Sunday. I woke up yesterday with the need to paint something and I wish I could pick up a brush and color all the colors of the rainbow and show you all these deep emotions with brushstrokes.

Instead... I sculpt and paint with light.

Marquis has stood in front of my camera a few times before and I love working with him because of his enthusiasm and love of art and fashion.

A few things you must know about the making of this image...

The day was cloudy, drizzly and cold.
We broke a few laws and trespassed.
I fell on my behind (again) in the woods and proceeded to laugh hysterically.
There are hundreds of images that we caught in our adventure.
We got caught by some man and his dog.
The man was missing a few of his front teeth.
The man took us deep into the woods which provided me with that spooky adrenaline rush think Blair Witch Project.
The man took us through a magical place that reminded us of Narnia.
I ended up hugging this man and making a new friend.

About Births...

I close my eyes and I see snow falling all around me. It makes me wonder if Savannah will be seeing snow this winter season. I can feel winter creeping in and the cold this season feels so raw. I continue searching for light in the darkness creating images that to me are beautiful and at times elegant, at times whimsical.  I sculpt and paint with light in hopes you feel something when my images enter into your consciousness.
Who knows? You might be inspired as well.

Before we did the shoot for the headpiece I took some shots and the images reminded me of  Botticelli's The Birth of Venus. Two in one...

Bohemian Life...

When it comes to the bohemian life you can't fake it. You are either born with a bohemian soul or you run around thinking you do.

I'm a girl from a good family who was very well brought up.
One day I turned my back on it all and became a bohemian.
Brigitte Bardot

It was my mom and I against the world. We lived in New York in this bohemian lifestyle where an extended group of artists and photographers were like my aunts and uncles.
Brooke Shields

I am inspired by the appearance of a bohemian of the new millennium.
John Malkovich

It is not my fault that certain so-called bohemian elements have found in my writings something to hang their peculiar beatnik theories on.

Happy almost weekend and please stay sweet...

Will be back with part two soon.

A Dance...

I have a few images that I have been meaning to release and share with you but I sure can't do that without the mention of The Philippine Islands. I love Filipino culture it is vibrant and one of my dearest friends Dianne she also happens to be the godmother to Ms.M is from The Philippines.

Dianne is a beautiful soul and she is one of those that has helped me when I needed a hand. I once was stranded in San Francisco with not a cent in my pocket or anyone that could help me. I called Dianne and within minutes the funds were sent to me so I could return home safely. The truth is Filipinos will give you a hand when you need it. They are hard working, hospitable and beautiful island people and they need our help.

Please visit the Red Cross  they are doing everything they can to help them.

Now I can continue and share with you a few images...

An Unkindness...

As I was falling asleep last night I thought of a great way to start this post but now it is morning light and I can't remember what it was all about. I have scheduled many shoots with many models and work has been keeping me from sharing what once was my daily life. When the blog began words dominated each one of these pages. Thoughts and ideas were shared through words because I could not find the time and space to work on my photography. Now all of these images leave me silent.  I could tell you look at the following photography series and make your own mind as to what they mean to you but I must tell you what inspire me to make the headdress used for this shoot.

I was blocked simply stating the muses had left my side. I have abandonment issues and if you are new to the blog the about page might give you clues as to why I have such issues. Angry with each one of my muses for leaving me in the dark I fell asleep...
I fell asleep and I dreamed...

I dreamed of a flock of ravens. Later I found out the proper name to a flock of ravens is an unkindness. These birds were flying in unison until one of them broke from the flock. That one raven flapped its wings so quickly that each feather began to fall off its body leaving nothing but a the skeleton of such bird with nothing but a few feathers while it flew. I woke up right there and went to work. The muses had not abandoned me after all. They just decided like so many times past to speak to me through my dreams.
