Alpha...

When I wrote my last words here it was summer... Today it's autumn. At the beginning of the month I heard over the news that an Alpha female wolf had been shot and killed from the air. "A Huckleberry Pack has been feeding on sheep being raised on private forest lands in northern Stevens County in Washington - said the news reporter." The only wolf killed was the Alpha female shot from a helicopter by a federal contractor.

From up in the air they could not tell it was the Alpha.
From down on the ground I was inspired.

A Tribe Called Women...

This blog post began on July the 20th of 2014. I was inspired by Brooke Shield's old movies Pretty Baby and The Blue Lagoon that would be my point of origin but the shoot fell flat. It was cloudy, rainy and I felt it had no dimension. Or maybe I had no dimension at the moment. At times I wonder if I am solar powered. My Pretty Baby was more like a scene of Rosemary's Baby and my Blue Lagoon was more like the Black Lagoon...
Unconciously... I deleted the files only keeping 3 images and I begged Amy to reshoot.

I gave her the excuse that most give... It's not you... It's me.
She asked "Are you breaking up with me?!"
To which I quickly reply  "No, I just need a break".
And a break I took...

:::Enter Deedee:::
There are people that come into your life and without any explanation they enhace your life and reality bring happiness and laughter as if breathing life into you. There are beings that come into our lives and turn a dull day into nothing but beauty... That's Deedee. A tribal dance teacher and my make up artist for many of my shoots. A single mom finishing her Masters degree... she is perfect.

Paint The Sky...

Not certain where or from whom but I heard a saying " Paint the sky and make it yours".  I make reference to the marshmallow clouds and how they inspire and allow me to daydream faster than I can go off to sleep. I have no control of my life but I do have so much control over my work and the things that inspire and challenge me. I allow silence to take over and from there ideas crawl out of it. From that silence images take over. From the silence I stare at the stars and the clouds...

This cotton candy head of mine at times thinks some folks hung the moon and I just paint the sky and stars around it. Without any sugar left on my tongue these are my latest conceptual photos...

La Dulce Vida...

At the moment my favorite things are...
Running through fields untamed...
The coolest welder since Alex in the movie Flashdance...
Thinking I can create the cover of Vogue for a free newspaper...

My favorite way of conveying what I am saying is with pictures.
So here they go...

Song to the Siren...

From my About Page
I was born on an enchanted island at the shores of the Caribbean Sea.
Where I weaved seashells and starfish into my hair.
Dreaming of mermaids, pirates and Undines.
I played under the hot sun close to the equator and underneath
many waterfalls for most of my childhood...
I danced to African drumbeats underneath the moonlit skies...
Under the rain forest canopy I fell in love for the first time.
Now, I live where the sun rises on the coast of Georgia.
Because the ocean is a part of me and who I am...
Close to the horizon I wish to be.

My interconnection with the ocean is organic neither trite or cynical. There are days when I crave the salty taste on my lips like some crave a piece of cake. As a child, I swore I could hear Yemaya calling me from the inside of the many seashells and waves that I played in. I ate sea grapes under many palm groves pretending to be the queen of it all. There... on the groves... the pirates would try to take my land which I would defend fiercely with the same machete that would help me drink my coconut water.

When I became a women my walk would try to mimic the sway and way of the palm trees on a windy afternoon. Those same palm trees would serve as my bed while I would read poetry to my beloveds. I drank many bottles of Lambrusco underneath them and  received many kisses. The ocean is part of me and who I am...

About Brigid...

I am moving through life inspired by everything and anything. There is a lack of arrogance on the things that will move and inspire me. My work continues to use the trees as the platform and frame to so many images that I dream up in my head.  They stand like soldiers and as the perfect props for my creations.  As a child I would climb an acerola tree and nap. From there I would also spy on my childhood crush when he would visit his grandmother in the summertime. Growing up on an island with a tropical rain forest will do things to you and your imagination.

So I continue tip-toeing to edge of this page just to show you the latest images I created with some good friends. Inspired by fairies, Ireland, Brigid of the Celts, the woodland and the baptismal powers of a river and in search of atonement.

Wonderland...

Many friends and loved ones are going through shifts and changes and I am as well. The beginning of any given year presents us with the opportunity of growth and rebirth and most of us embrace it. Questioning my own existence and future is as normal as brushing my teeth these days.

Like the frog footman shows up with an invite to the croquet game... the return of old lovers via Facebook friend request is one I always question. Puzzled, I accept. Something happens when we reach a certain age and with fondness we navigate the roads and rivers of the past as if we've dropped something along the way...

What I remember from those days is a plethora of boys I've kissed. Beautiful boys that provided me with even more beautiful adventures, music, art and laughter. They never meant any harm and I would always leave them before they had a chance to leave me. Then, all I needed was someone warm to hold onto and read poetry with. Drink wine and kiss me until the sun would come up or until my lips were burning... chapped... from all the kissing. These boys all tasted like mangoes and papayas who was I to deny myself of such sweetness. They would lay on my lap and fall asleep.

Dreaming of who knows what...

Alice could possibly be one of my favorite characters and as an homage of me going down the rabbit hole and with the help of Krista that wanted so badly to be Alice...
I present to you...

The Dead Tree...

There once was a girl that spoke many dirty words...Her mother tried everything even washing her mouth. As words coated in bubbles came out of her mouth other dirty words kept stringing like garlands. The mother angry shoved roses down her throat in hopes nothing but flowers would sprout...To her surprise a dead tree grew clogging her throat.

Left in silence the girl did not speak...

Red...

Red is strong, fierce and passionate.
Red is determination and at times surreal.
Red is the color of love and hungry lips.

Red is also the color of shame...

“Your red dress,’ she said, and laughed.
But I looked at the dress on the floor and it was as if the fire had spread across the room. It was beautiful and it reminded me of something I must do. I will remember I thought. I will remember quite soon now.”
Wide Sargasso Sea

We tried to go for a second concept. We tried because we had beautiful dresses that needed to be worn. We tried but the skies told me it would only be about Red...

Jon and Blake you guys are amazing and I am lucky to be surrounded by so many creative artists. Laura thank you for an amazing session.
