Sharing...

I began this post yesterday morning but the chores, the weather, the children made it impossible to finish. I decided in the evening as they were in bed I will get the time I need to write. Writing makes me so happy I set as much time as I can for it. But that's when a friend showed up and I did what any good hostess would do and I opened a bottle of wine. A Riesling that was perfect for our starry autumn night with cool crisp air and lots of things to talk about.

So I wake up today and my post has yet to be finished and since the conversation and company were great I saw no reason to cut it short. This morning I can feel it though...
My body is catching the autumn cold that is knocking on everyone's window.

So I rush to do as much as I can.
As my throat keeps swelling.
As the scratchiness and burning sensation grows intense.
As my nose begins to run I wish I've used last nights wine cork to plug each nostril before it floods the keyboard.
I rush I type and I edit.
Because I want this post to make it out today.

Sharing with you the birth of autumn around the home.

Child of the Moon...

I heard through Facebook that CNN on Friday would be honoring the service men at Tybee beach by releasing at least 35 Chinese fire lanterns to honor the fallen heroes.  All I could imagine was this...

I know those are more than 35 but its all in my head.  So I pictured at least 100 faces being lit by candle and American pride. I, the child of the moon, the one that prefers going to sleep at sunrise instead of sunset set voyage to Tybee island.

By 5am it daunt on me that I was the only citizen unaware that this was not going to happen. The solitude...the quiet... All alone on a beach during twilight hours. The sunrise never showed up either. Not like in the movies anyways. It was cloudy and windy but it was mine.

All mine.

The quiet time to find myself and put my thoughts in order.
Solitude becomes sweeter as I mature.
In my solitude its where I find myself the least alone.
I now also have a new goal...
To photograph the perfect sunrise.

The sun did not show up the way a photographer dreams of  a sun rising but this made up for the absence of bright lights...

Showing up when the family is getting up to begin their day with a box of these made me a hero.
Dangerous, warm and yummy like the sun.

In Sickness And In Health...

Cake is my life... my heart... the love I thought I would never find.  The man that I would definitely do anything for. He has raised along with me all 3 of my children. We have created a history together.
We have battled the world of all archenemies like Batman & Robin.
At one point we owned a business that was doing quite well then just as fast we lost it... We watched the births of our 2 daughters and watch people leaves us just as fast... Grandmothers his and mine. My father. Uncles and Aunts. My kid brother. And yes, I am still mourning him... I miss him everyday at least once. And against all odds we are still together...

Like Salt and Pepper.

Cake and I New Years Eve 2009 3 months Pregnant with Mia

This week and this weekend was another one of those times when we relied and leaned on each other...
My weekend plans went from being the host of a Martini night to various trips to the emergency room. We were all sick... the whole house... it was like a nightmare...fighting for bathrooms, ginger ale and Gatorade. Rock paper scissors to see who would be the lucky one to take care of the baby because we all felt like death.

But these are the times that as a family we rally. These are the times when I am so proud of who my family is and what incredible strength and courage we are made of. Better times will come. Healthier days will arrive and when it does we will be better people for it. We will be better to ourselves and others because selflessly and lovingly we took care of each other because at the end we have each other in sickness and in health. That is a vow that includes each member of the family not just dear mom and dad.

insomnia...

the inability to sleep at night.

i can sleep just not during moonlit skies. some may call themselves vampires, insomniacs, restless, for such behavior, i think i am just a lover of the night skies, the stars, the constellations, the stillness, the silence, and what it provides… the creative ideas that pop up and the endless possibilities that i seem to find during this magical time.

although one might think walking around with no sleep is a tad depressing i think is nirvana when i can quiet my mind and just allow the muses to flow through and challenge me with new thoughts and ideas. this “insomnia” sucks to others but to me is heaven…my temple… my sacred space… my twilight… is almost a religious experience… one that i feel i am minimizing by talking about it. some women struggle in finding that place of silence and wake up a few hours earlier every morning just to get that quiet time i so highly speak of….it does not work for me.

sunlight equals life… moonlight equals create…at least in my universe.

so, when do i find time to sleep? these days sleep is less and less because there are endless things i want to do and take care of.

right now is 2am and i am washing a load of laundry while i type and download pictures… wake up to send one to school and then i sleep mid morning when the little goes down for her nap. when i wake up at almost lunch time with the little one... we stretch, look at the sun and begin for a second time our brand new day. i believe this gives us an advantage that not many have… we have a couple of sunrises and sunsets and a couple of moonrises and moonsets all in one 24 hour period…this my friends makes my life sweeter…and “insomnia” never sounded better… in the dictionary this is the picture they have next to the meaning of sleeping like a baby…
