Cabaret...

Because words like... Speakeasy, burlesque, bohemian, club soda, lounge, scotch, vaudeville make me smile and fill my soul with nothing but pure naught. And if you asked me to describe myself as a genre my answer to you would be Cabaret. To understand Cabaret you must understand Burlesque since it predates such but in the end Burlesque became Vaudeville to then be recognized as Cabaret in the USA during the 1920's. A mixture of the drama, satire, dance, fire breathing from Vaudeville while containing some of the Burlesque aspects of Europe.

Last night I attended such a show and here are my images...

So there you have it a dose of the wild side.

From Savannah GA signing off...

Have a great weekend and please stay sweet.

About A Girl...

There's always been a struggle within . Growing up I never felt feminine enough. I felt rough and ordinary. I wanted to be dainty and fragile...delicate. And although I studied with the gurus and the masters about the art of twisting like a pretzel... about movement and flexibility... about bending my own body to will...
I felt I could never master the "feeling" of daintiness.

It might be my mothers stories about me being a 10 pound baby and the pain she endured. She never lets me forget it. Might be the stories about the baby girl she brought home and all the linen and fine gowns that were ripped at their seams because her arms were so thick and she could not fit into them.

It was not until my late twenty's that I found the femininity I was searching after. It was not until the birth of my first daughter Maia that I felt like the ballerina that spins in every music box. Like all the Disney princesses combined. Like Marilyn Monroe and Mae West. Like Betty Boop and Jessica Rabbit. Her birth transformed me into that Swan like queen...

The weekend was beautiful... the ballet was exquisite... So was my escort (husband) to the ballet.
My nephew is visiting us and there's so much I am remembering and experiencing.
I am processing, learning and absorbing and all these verbs are transforming me.
I am waiting until I can verbalize more...

Until then... Stay Sweet!

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

The first act of Cats the Musical begins as the Jellicle cats are making their entrance into a big junkyard. As they enter, the Jellicle cats suddenly become aware of their human audience and realize that they must explain what a Jellicle cat is. Jellicat cats, they explain, are a very special breed of cats, very different from the ordinary cats. For starters, they each have three names: the first name is given by their human owners, the second name is unique and tailor-made for that specific cat based on its character and personality, and the third name is so mystical and esoteric that it is only known by the cat itself.

But, even more special than their unique names is the Jellicle cats’ ability to be reborn. In fact, the Jellicle cats have gathered together in the junkyard for that very reason. It is the night of the annual Jellicle Ball, an event in which Old Deuteronomy (the eldest and wisest Jellicle cat) chooses the cat who will be given a new life.

And, just like that my camera took me on another journey. This was my second assignment for the local paper. Next assignment is in January and I can't wait...

*****
Being a blogger has its perks for example when a company sends you something and you use it and then you love it. There are some that are plain hilarious did not work for us but I found other uses...

Photobucket
The Juppy Walker found another use.

To follow one of the many items that have made it to my door but this one I want to mention...
The reason? It controls temperature and she falls asleep easy its hypoallergenic and fire resistant.

Life Imitating Art...

I have been all...
I have been the Mouse King, the Prince, the Nutcracker and Clara...
I have been the Russian dancers and the Spanish flamenco dancers which bring you chocolates dear Clara...
I have been the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.

Photobucket

Like the Mouse king I have dropped to my knees wounded in battle...
Like the Prince I too have stabbed with my sword...
Like Clara I have found my Prince...

Photobucket

We have loved each other in the land of snow... We were witness of the dancing snowflakes.
We made pilgrimage to our kingdom... That place which is ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy until your return my dear Prince...
We have traveled in a nutshell boat pulled by dolphins to the beautiful Land of Sweets.
There we will find all the riches as well as all the honey... right there... in our kingdom.

I was wounded and I was victorious... I was all these and so much more since we last met...
But that was... Stronger and victorious I have reached the Land of Sweets...

My camera has taken me on another journey and so much more I am looking forward to.
Hope your weekend was a great start to the holiday season...
Happy Monday.

Aloha...

So if my house like a blog had a word cloud the words for this week would be...
Aloha, Lei, Birthdays, Hawaii, limbo, cupcakes, friends, RSVP, invites, grass skirts, sarongs...
But the only cloud my daughter resides on these days is cloud nine.
She only invited 10 of her closest girlfriends she was mindful not to over do it.
Because really who can relax by the pool with a bunch of boys?!
I know that won't be the case a few years from now so in the meantime I'll enjoy it.

adrianairis La Dulce Vida

So we continue moving swiftly through our house on island standard time after all that is not too hard for us to accomplish being that I am an islander I know the rules and have a concrete sense of it...
I teach my mainland family how to just take it real easy...

I will be back on Monday to share with you triumphs and any disasters... For those that had questions about my last post   Here's an online interview that might clear a few questions. I will also with time will share more as I go along.

Happy weekend peeps... Stay Sweet!

sunshine...

We have been soaking in all the sunshine and the beautiful weather the southern part of the USA has been blessed with. This kind of weather begs of you to kick off your shoes and be. Be one with the universe and nature. We look at the clouds for a little longer as they turn into all sorts of shapes and magical forms. We drink cool drinks excited and filled with anticipation because we know that soon this weather will last a little longer and we won't have to rush in gulping all this delicious weather and all the goodness that comes with it.

My son Jorge makes me see the world as a dream...

I am one of those that chooses to create a life and reinvent each moment and live it as it's the last. I am in constant search of all the beauty available to me... far, near, below and above. As I watch my children grow I enter a world of self discovery and auto-evaluation where I try to untangle and weave a patchwork of memories and dreams. A place and a reality where we feel safe and loved.

Photobucket

In hopes that when they are ready to fly out of the nest they will be truly ready and will feel safe and secure to embark in their new lives with their own dreams and challenges but with the knowledge that there is always a time to laugh, live and enjoy all the beauty the world has to offer. After all... life is short and nothing but the best should be what we strive for.

Beautiful chaos…

that’s  what I call the process when you are so busy and your mind just goes on cruise control… to deal with whatever situation, and pretty much nothing phases you… because you know there is so much to do, that whatever situation has to be dealt with promptly, swiftly, without much hesitation therefore your brain can’t be filled with any emotional clutter ,and you have no time to emotionally get attached because the bigger picture is clear and is sweet and it should not be missed and regardless of how much, how many or how big you just choose to see the beautiful aspects and completely just cancel anything that might want to disrupt that process.

While my mind did my cruise control number to deal with problems and situations, I was able to take in the sight sounds of those things that were there in front of me. And I was able to take it in… while I left my cruise control do the work with all other tasks.

So, I guess I have just found a new way of disconnecting my emotions from problems that arise and only engage my present self to those moments in life we usually miss because our brain is dealing with issues.
One thing I caught and did not miss this weekend was a frog taking a shower picture follows…

My weekend was filled with crab cakes, dance, sights sounds and loads of laughter … Once upon a time I would have ignored so much and not really seen how sweet life can really be…
