Soothe Your Soul...

I am sitting here anxiously waiting for a storm. Completely and utterly filled with anticipation as if it was the first thunderstorm I've ever witnessed. In the south during spring and summer time we get this beautiful and very random storms with lighting and thunder. Mother nature making sure you know who is the boss. Putting me and my surroundings in check. The birds are rushing to what seems like home and I watch a squirrel go as fast as she can (yes, by now you know everything is a she) to her destination. I am pretty sure home...her home is somewhere cozy safe and filled with a variety of nuts, fruits and seeds that it has been able to gather thus far.

Growing up on an island does wonderful things to your soul.
You learn to appreciate nature and everything in it...
Imagine a hummingbird sucking the nectar out of an orchid growing out of the trunk of a lemon tree...
I can close my eyes still and smell the perfume of the orchids mixed with the citrus lemon which felt like a cooling sensation inside my soul.  The hummingbird like harmless lighting flies...Watching the hummingbird sucking the nectar out of all the beauty which is surrounded by made me think of the ways I too could and should be like the hummingbird as I walked through life...

I've traveled to places that were far and near...Crossed a few seas and became completely enchanted with the beauty and uniqueness of each human that was put on this earth...
I fell in love with the connections and the similarities we all have... amazed of the many people that have touched my life and filled with wonderment and complete curiosity because we all know...
We can't lose the sense of wonderment.
You can't lose all of your innocence otherwise dread and sadness settles in and the ability to feel and see all things that are whimsical and fantastic get lost in translation.

So at times I tend to hide...I hide behind the camera, a book, my kids, my journal, my kitchen even behind the music.  Anything that can take me back to that afternoon... to my lemon tree... and like the hummingbird I travel sipping nectar from every flower, I fly joyfully through my days, seeing beauty in everything and everyone. Now, I hear the same frog that sends me off to slumber every night its singing to me in the middle of my day. She too is waiting anxiously for the storm... for raindrops to provide her with a cooling sensation all the way to it's soul.

Where do you hide to soothe your soul?

  12. Where do I go? Well, I go to Vermont, when I can. When i can't, which is 99.9% of the time since I live in Seattle, I go to Discovery park and walk the dog amongst the shells, the trees and the lighthouses....

    Such beautiful imagery, Adriana!!

  14. Your pictures captured "heaven" for me. To answer your questions, books are where I bury myself, whether to escape a moment, hide from a problem I'm not ready to face, or relish in a new adventure. Stories soothe me. I'm so happy I found you. : )

  19. Beautiful photos and beautiful analogy! Hummingbirds are one of my favorite birds. My husband got a photo of one on its nest one time, and it was so incredibly peaceful.

I hide under a cozy blanket with a cup of tea. Though with the weather warming up, I think it will need to be in the grass in my backyard with a glass of iced tea!
