I love every season and to each I have written love letters but I am above all a summer child. The summer season and I will be eternal lovers. I love each storm, each sunset and the long days that settle into magical nights. Each summer storm comes with an excuse to cuddle up in some corner near a window opening a book and read.
We are watching the sunsets and chasing the shadows as the days go by. The watch has been left behind since school is out and we tell time when our bodies tell us to switch from lemonade to wine. The summer keeps seducing me with concerts in the park, walks by the river and moonlight swimming. I continue to dab orange and grapefruit oil on my neck hoping that it will stick on my girls' memories forever.
When they are in their 20's standing somewhere... anywhere on a summer afternoon and suddenly the smell of orange and all the yummy citrus fills up the air they can remember me and all of our lazy summers.
I met him during the summer season and at first I thought this was my reason for falling for him so quickly.
Thirteen Midsummer's night later we are still going strong and this weekend is all about him...
The man that was happy to love and raise my son.
The man that gave me my two daughters.
The man that takes me just the way I am...
Because a father's job is not just about sticking around and paying the bills. A father's job is to equally love, nurture and nourish their children. As our society moves forward in a progressive manner gender roles and even the role of a father has shifted. I celebrate him for his involvement and patience. It is he that has given me the ability, the space and the time to have it all. I am mother, a student, an artist, a wife, a friend and countless other things and I can be all that I want to be because of him.
Because there is no guilt or children that prefer one over the other we are a team.
Happy weekend and Happy Father's Day peeps!
Please stay sweet...
