Dance...

I am writing this as I know it and I felt it.

I began dance at the age of 9 I wanted to move and be moved...
I danced my little heart out for many years.
Missed friend's birthdays and playtime because I wanted to dance...
Dance was my life...

When my father had too much to drink I would put on my Walkman and dance...
I would dance with anger with fury and at times full of fear...
But I danced... The insanity in the dance would make me feel better.
I was told by the masters my body was not built for a Prima Ballerina Assoluta.
My heart broke into a million pieces and all sounds stood still...

She doesn't want to walk observing her I am now well aware that all along she only wanted to dance. She was not trying to take full steps. She was just trying to dance. I have seen those eyes before. The eyes that are moved by music and just wishes to move along in a harmonious beat. The one that wants to become one with vibrations and sound. One that feels the unseen and can feel it running up through her feet up her legs reaching all the way into her heart. She wants to dance.

Not once I will tell her she needs to walk first... Not once I will tell her those tiny feet are not built for dancing yet... No I won't.  Her dancing seems like her feet are dreaming while awake and while a dancer is dreaming she is living.

The weekend was nothing but renewal and my soul celebrates today.

Wishing you a happy new week and a full glass from the well of happy thoughts.
Drink up peeps and Dance...

  1. It's hard to believe and sad to see that it takes just one person fora dream to vanish. My story is almost the same. And like you I will never allow my children to stop dreaming :)

  2. Gigi was dancing before she was walking! Our girls will be able to go as far as they want to because they can.

  3. Beautiful post! I used to love to draw, but I let a high school art teacher ruin it for me. Your daughter is so lucky that you will fill her with the confidence to not listen to the critics.

  10. I love this pictures, I'm almost crying. The little one is so beautiful, and I love to see her dressed up like a ballerina. I love dancing and when I was a little kid I used to want to be a Flamenco dancer.

  14. that first one is so beautiful. child and photo. :)

there are so many types of dance too. often a child is put off a specific field without any support or guidance to the many other avenues still open.

mostly, the child is not heard.
i have a husband who was put off professional football but would've loved a career in sports and was never gudided to that.
i have nieces with passions that go unheard because the parents have other ideas - living through their children what they were unable to do.

children unheard is the saddest thing.

(btw, i haven't visited in so long because my connection can't cope with your large pics. they seem of large FILE sizes as i can visit other blogs with visually large pics. just letting you know, as i had previously enjoyed visiting regularly)

  19. It's amazing how we share so much. I remembered you dancing. As I read your post, images of you and I dancing in "abuelas marquesina". I also started dancing at the age of 8. I loved how you and I combined our different dances and showed each other the different types of moves we knew. You new great puertorican folklorico and more as I knew ballet and jazz.

Funny how your little one dances before she walked, so did my grand baby :) so you see the many things we share lol so much alike. I love you much much more each day. It's good to read your blogs, it shows me how our feelings are so much alike. Love how we can share to make up the distance.
