Caterpillars and Butterflies...

I've shared how I always wanted a sister... Although I am clear where I stand in the role of Mom she seems to really like me and wants to spend time with me... She really wants to hang out... At times she talks to me as if I am her older sister and she has a few secrets to share...  It is such a fine line between "friends" "sisters" and being the respected "Mom"... A balancing act for sure...

And I know it will come the time when I will have to schedule myself in her life... To be heard, noticed and seen... We all know they evolve... They change and grow and like caterpillars the transformation is magical and overwhelming... We see the beautiful butterfly for what it is... All of its colors and shades the freedom and right to fly away... Without any concerns sucking the nectar out of each flower like she should suck the sweet nectar out of this sweet life...

As mothers we can never verbalize the love, admiration and the depth of our emotions... It's complex and so delicate... Like a silkworm I work hard in weaving and building her wings to fly to help her land softly wherever she goes but like H.G Wells... I desperately try to build a time machine to contain and encapsulate all these memories...

This is our sleepovers in the summertime Maia wants to sleep on the couch while I sleep on the other couch... We watch movies until the late hours...

I pray everyday for the ability to remember it all... every smile...every joke...every song... every dance... every word... every secret...
Happy Midweek Peeps!
Stay sweet...

  4. So true, it's important to savor all of these little moments that add up to our big lives.

I'm loving this age. One minute they'll act so mature then the next is the sweet baby girl of yesterdays.

  5. After reading that, I have such a beautiful image in my mind of mothers building silk time capsule cocoons.

Though your relationship will change, I know my own relationship with my mother has only gotten better as I've gotten older. It's great to be women together now.

  14. What a beautiful post on motherhood and you certainly have beautiful daughter! Glad you are so close and hope you always will be. It can happen, my mom and I were always close--even through my teen years.

  15. Adriana, I always love to drop by your site. It brings back alot of my childhood. I was a poet in that life, and my children try to push me back to it.
    Sometimes life is busy.
The 'must-do's' pull us away from things we love.
Dont ever let that happen to you.
Thank you, for your beautiful expressions.

  18. My 20 year old daughter is moving out this week and I have been an emotional wreck. I want to start over again from the beginning and do life with her all over again. She has been perfect in every way and the joy that fuels my life. Im not ready to seperate, but to be a proper mother I know it best for her to learn to become an adult. My heart truly, physically hurts.
I agree with you...I hope I can remember it all.

I'm not gonna lie, it's wicked hard to remember it all. this is why i cherish photography so much, it helps me to remember the silly, sweet and super cool stories to tell. i even backup snap shots from my phone to my desk and a back up drive so i don't lose them. i may never print most, but i will have the memories to share.
these are wonderful as always. thanks for sharing.
