It's been so hot in my town...
Hot enough that on my ride home yesterday I rolled down my windows placing my face straight into the sunlit sky...
Quickly I knew...
The breeze carrying with it is the smell of summertime.
Someone was grilling out maybe burning a few leaves...
And I think the smoky air attached itself to my radio antenna...
Taking over the radio waves...
And as I drove the sun began to set in the most beautiful of palettes...
And I went back in time...
A time of jellybean sandals and chalk on the sidewalks...
Playing tag... hide and go seek...
I went back to my first kiss under the summer full moon...
Snow-cones and Ice cream trucks...
My salty lips from spending all day dancing and twirling by the Caribbean sea....
And all these memories came flooding back...
Because scents are tied with memories and whether they are bitter or sweet they stay inherent in our subconscious until...One evening while driving home it hit us and we are flooded with feelings and it clouds our mind with a plethora of emotions...
Scent it's the reason my husband nuzzles his head between the end of my neck right behind my ear as he breathes me in...
It is how my baby knows I am her mama...
My teen son knows what's for dinner...
Yesterday with the sunlight weaving itself through my hair...
I imagined sunbeams infusing light into my being...
In liquid golden rays I was covered...
And my skin was sticky as molasses...
The sweet smell of hickory mixed with the coconut oil from my lotion is everywhere...
Intoxicating me with memories like a vintage spirit...
and just like that...
The summer breeze...
