Girl Talk...

My thoughts are all jumbled up with words like woman, supermoon, full moon, strength, courage, fluidity. I knew sitting here at this coffee house with music playing while I read a book would make me wanna write. Complete and total cliche but I wish to write. I would like to write some poetry that would move us to cry. I want to write a poem for my brother, for our mothers even for all sisters.

I have realized in the past few days that I might not live in a palace but I oversee a kingdom. I have realized that my mind is so ripe with ideas and creativity. Following the moon and the stars as if it had been charted for me. In love with womanhood and feeling lucky that somehow this is my gender. I would not want to change a thing.
Not even shaving my legs...

The super power of a woman is giving the illusion we are weaker. ~ Me.

It is hard being a girl. We can be so degraded. So disrespected. Even when we are tough the world wants us to be weaker. But on this day I just wish to say a few things to my daughters. Specially to my now teen Ms. M...

To ignore the noise and chatter all that sound that the world makes about possessions and what you own. These things my love does not define who you are or your worth, my love. Our future generation will never respect you for things you might possess or the appearance of having things. I want to tell you my sweet darling that the more you try to gain, accumulate, collect, hoard... The harder you try to "perfect" an image the harder it will be for you to understand who you truly are and the reasons why you are here.

  1. you DO live in a palace - the world you're making over there in Savannah with all those beautiful streets and rooms and husband and children x

  2. You can't get better motherly advice than that. I see so many of our teens now days so very lost to themselves, which is a shame because the teen and twenty somethings area all about finding yourself, but it's so hard to do when you, well, when you don't spend time with yourself. (sheesh that's a ton of yourselves)

    As always, love the pictures.

  7. That last picture almost looks like a heart! I love this post. My mom used to say that no one could put her down or degrade her or talk down to her because she refused. She refused to allow them the power. THAT lesson was one of the most powerful ones she taught me. She was very confident and ignored anyone who said, "No, you can't..." simply because she was a woman.
