I hope you dance...

I remember my first dance. I was 12 years old and I wore a bubble dress kind of like the ones that are now so trendy. I remember having to scrub the white kitchen floors with a toothbrush and Clorox because my father wanted the grout so clean that we could eat out of...  that is what he said to me. I am highly allergic to chlorine but swollen nostrils and red eyes was an easy price to pay so I could attend. All my friends would be there wearing the latest and dancing to sweetest tunes that were popular that year. I felt and thought I looked so good. I also knew I was a good dancer. With a strut and confident as Sheila E's The Glamorous Life was playing I entered the community hall the school had reserved for the dance that evening.

I paid my $1.00 entry fee shoved the change from my $5.00 bill I had worked for in my bag as I made my way to the hall. Oblivious and clumsy and as I normally am I noticed the strobe lights pulsating fast and a few laser lights moving fast to the beat of the music. Not sure if it was the overdose of chlorine or the lights my head began to spin and I felt dizzy taking a nice tumble but before I could hit the ground a boy named Andy grabbed me. Andy and I danced for the rest of the night. While we danced to Dennis De Young Desert Moon I knew my first boyfriend had to be gentle, kind and generous. Thanks Andy!

Today is Ms. M's 1st school dance. She is 11 days away from her 12th birthday. Excited she talked about this dance for weeks. Excited she chose her dress and each accessory.

There will be no scrubbing of floors for her before the big dance there will be no demands in exchange for this experience. All I ask is that she has a great time and that if she stumbles I only wish for someone to be there to break her fall.

  4. Letty....don't you feel bad now talking and talking about your Clorox wipes all the time? lol!

Adriana, I hope you got a new toothbrush after that but if you didn't then I know what to get you for Xmas...I'll get one of those that you can personalize with your name and write on it: "I clean the floor with it if I want too, you can't MAKE me do it now..I go to dances if I want to and I may not even have to pay to go in now..I write a blog post about what I want to and don't care if you find out!"

Not sure if all that will fit on the toothbrush but if not then we can go graffiti it on a freaking wall...Where does your dad live?

Now let's talk about your children...dudette they are made for the camera, amazing how in every single photo they look like (smart) models..I know you are a good photographer but that is natural talent on their part. About the dance, I remember at that age the boys dance on one side and the girls on another...but yes, one day they will all get mixed up but by that time my son the black belt will be in his teens too so he can come and kick some butt ;)

    P.S. rocking ring!
